Prototyping of the insect measuring device for the forest area.
Only 2 weeks of lead time for conception, construction and testing. Under such circumstances, CC decided to replace the hardware with the Raspberry Pi single-board computer. Such solution is more time and cost efficient. Also, other components were produced using a 3D printing process to meet the deadline.
Undeniably, the smart trap has to use the so-called smart functionality, and ours indeed does. It counts the number of insects, recognizes the types of insects and measures their dimensions. Consequently, it retains the pests inside and releases the beneficial bugs; this is done by the means of an intelligent image processing method.
The measuring device operates autonomously via a photovoltaic module and collects the excess energy in a battery storage. Such procedure ensures uninterrupted power supply! All data is collected through Raspberry Pi Zero, transferred to a server, via a reverse SSH interface, and finally evaluated.
The pest infestation is documented and evaluated in real time. With the knowledge gained, the client can monitor the spread of pests, in detail, and develop more effective measures against the increasing pest infestation.
Construction of a drone, which localizes a herd of farm animals through the means of GPS technology and transmits data, to a user, via radio standard LTE or IRIDIUM.
The battery of the drone must be charged several times during the day in order to search for individual herds of farm animals. In order to proceed with effective battery loading the drone has to find an adequate type of surface to land and unfold photovoltaic module. In addition to energy loading aspect, the drone has to be reliable and safety-oriented with regards to humans and animals.
An infrared camera attached to an octocopter transmitted data into a measuring system within which data is processed and evaluated real time. Such thermal image analysis allowed for recognition and localization of the animals. Through controlled flight maneuvers animals were steered back to a previously defined collecting point. Additionally, LTE technology allowed to locate even the outermost farm animals. Such feature helps to protect animals from dangerous locations or situations such as fire.
Due to the "herding effect", protection of a single animal is of key importance. If one farm animal escapes from its natural environment it endangers the entire herd. Nevertheless, the farmer no longer has to carry out risky searches as the farm animals are safe thanks to the flying shepherd.
